Jane Austens views upon marriages essays

Jane Austens views upon marriages essays Jane Austens novel Pride and Prejudice carries through a lot of thoughts about marriages in the 18:th and 19:th century. In the novel, Jane Austen is rather critical about the whole system of hierarchy during the time. The critics are especially directed towards the situation for women. This can be seen in several of the marriages, where she uses them as examples of the focus on class and money, instead of on love. Another part of the novel is where she gives a warning to everyone, telling you to be really careful with who you marries, and not just take the first one. Yet, she does not only complain about how it works, but she also shows us what she considers to be a wealthy marriage. In Jane Austens novel Pride and Prejudice there is a lot of criticism upon the system of hierarchy. This is shown in many of the different marriages, with the way they do not like each other, persons marrying for class instead of love, and several other aspects. One example of people marrying just for the different advantages it means in society, is the Collins. Charlotte goes into the marriage with the reflections of it to be general satisfactory (90).The result of it is being rather depressing. Already in the beginning of the engagement Charlotte feels that she [cares] not how soon that establishment were gained (90) . All because of the societys demands on how a marriage should look like, and also because of the trap Jane Austen consider young girls to be held captured in. Since girls can not own anything in any way, they have to marry. Otherwise they take the risk of being thrown out a house some day. An highly uncomfortable situation for the women who can sometimes come even f rom the upper gentry. Therefore, if you are approaching the age of being to old for marriage, you should seriously consider to get married as soon as possible, just like Charlotte Lucas. Another big part of the novel is wh...

The id controls ones desires and needs like the drive to eat or drink. Ego acts as the mediator of the others i.e. the id and the superego (Corey, 2008). Can Video Games be Art Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Can Video Games be Art - Essay Example Different critics have argued that generally, games cannot be considered as forms of art. These include film critics such as Roger Ebert and art critics such as Jonathan Jones. The argument of these critics against qualification of video games as art mainly draws from a philosophical point of view (â€Å"The Guardian† WEB). However, the recent criticism of Robert Ebert about video games was countered by the US government, which emphasized that video games are a form of art (Tassi WEB). Regardless of all the controversies surrounding video games and their authenticity as an art form, there are those individuals, who like to identify with video games, and are greatly involved in playing them. Such individuals support video games, and most think of it as a form of art, despite what the critics might say about video games. An example of such individuals is Blissel Tom, a popular author of the book Extra Lives: Why Video Games Matter. He is a man that is obsessed with video games, and confesses publicly, how he can spend many hours playing video games. Blissel is convinced that video games is a form of art, and in his book, he refers to video games as an art form. According to him, video games are an important art form. Recently, I met one of my childhood friends, who lives in a different state. I learnt that he has taken up video games seriously, and he loves playing them whenever he is free. I talked with him lengthily about video games, and realized that he is well informed about video games. When we separated back while still young children, my friend had not been exposed to video games, and had never played them. However, several years down the line, he presents himself as an ardent fan of video games, and comes out as being obsessed with video games and being knowledgeable about them. He too considers video games as an art form, since like other art forms; it requires skills and talent to play them. Besides the Federal Government, which has categorized video games under the other traditional art forms, the Smithsonian American Art Museum also considers video games as an art form. Previously, this museum undertook seven consecutive months hosting an exhibition, which they called ‘The Art of Video Games.’ In this exhibition, the museum aimed at celebrating video games as an art form, which has existed in homes for an approximate 40 years (â€Å"Smithsonian American Art Museum† WEB). According to Jewell, video games today have revolutionized, and cannot compare to those of the past decades. She notes that these are an amalgamation of all the different types of the traditional art forms (WEB). These views coincide with Blissel’s views, as all these consider video games as art. According to Blissel (350), video games are an important part of a person’s social life. In his book Extra Lives: Why Video Games Matter, Blissel sharply argues against the critics of video games, including those who do not cons ider video games as an art form. In the cultural aspect, Blissel considers video games as important as other art forms in the society, and equal to them in capacity. In his book, Blissel compared video games to traditional art forms such as movies, and novels. In Blissel’s comparison of video games with other traditional art forms, he finds out that video games have both a positive and

Objectives of Study Development of industries depends on several factors such as financial, personnel, technology, quality of product and marketing. Financial aspects assume a significant role in determining the growth of industries. All the company’s operations virtually affect its need for cash. Most of these data covering operations area are however outside the direct responsibility of the financial executives. The firm whose present operations are inherently difficult should try to makes its financial analysis to enable its management to stay on top of its working position. In this context I am undertaking financial ratio analysis of HCL Technologies to examine and understand financial performance of the company. Using ratio analysis this project will provide the insights of – * The growth and development of HCL Technologies for last 5 years (FY 08-12) * The behavior of liquidity and profitability of HCL Technologies * The factors determining the liquidity and profitability of HCL Technologies Scope The scope of the study is limited to financial data published in the annual reports of the company every year. The analysis is done to suggest possible solutions for financial growth of the organization. This study is carried out for 5 years (2008-2012). Also data provided by external agencies are used for analysis of future predication. 3. Concept of Financial Statement amp; Ratio Analysis 2 3. 2 Financial Statement To understand the information contained in financial statements with a view to know the strength or weaknesses of the organization, to make forecast about future prospects and thereby enabling the management and external parties to take different decisions regarding the operations. Fundamental analysis has a very broad scope. One aspect looks at the general (qualitative) factors of the company. The other side considers tangible and measurable factors (quantitative). This means crunching and analyzing numbers from the financial statements if used in conjunction with other methods, quantitative analysis can produce excellent results. Ratio Analysis Ratio analysis is the method or process by which relationship/group of items in the financial statement are computed, determined and presented. Ratio analysis is an attempt to derive quantitative measure or guides concerning the financial health and profitability of business enterprises. Ratio analysis can be used both in trend and static analysis. Purpose of several ratios depends on the objective of analysis. A financial ratio measures a company’s performance in a specific area. For example, you could use a ratio of a company’s debt to its equity to measure a company’s gearing. By comparing the gearing ratios of two companies, you can determine which company uses greater debt per equity. You can use this information to make a judgment as to which company is better investment risk. However, you must be careful not to place too much importance on one ratio. You obtain better indication of the direction in which a company is moving when several ratios are taken as a group. Ratios are worked out to analyze the following aspects of an enterprise: a. Solvency: i. Long term ii. Short term iii. Immediate b. Profitability c. Operational Efficiency d. Credit standing e. Effective utilization of resources f. Hamlet and His Many Roles Essay -- essays papers

Hamlet and His Many Roles In the Shakespearean play, Hamlet, the title character portrays many roles, and all of these roles intersect in one scene in the play, Act III, scene ii. This scene takes place at the exact center of the play and if broken up into sections one can see a different aspect of Hamlet’s personality for each one. The play-within-a-play scene suggests that Hamlet is putting on his own play and reminds us that in real life, a person can play many roles. Hamlet plays a different role with each character in the play, such as Polonius, Claudius, Ophelia, Horatio, and the players. In the play scene, these characters are in the same place at the same time. Bert States calls Hamlet â€Å"a succession of responses to rapidly changing stimuli†. As he reacts with each character, he must move from role to role very quickly. It can be asked which roles are parts of Hamlet’s true self and which are feigned? Shakespeare uses references to plays and acting throughout the play to keep in mind the theme of appearance Vs reality. Hamlet says, â€Å"Our indiscretion sometimes serves us well, when our deep plots do pall, and that should learn us/ There’s a divinity that shapes our ends, rough-hew them how we will† (V, ii.lns 8-11). He is referring to the plot, the plan to alter the Murder of Gonzago, that he had earlier used to catch the conscience of the king. Hamlet also refers to a play when speaking of his voyage with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern: â€Å"being thus benetted round with villainies-- or I could make a prologue to my brains, they had begun the play† (V, ii. lns 29-31). Here, Hamlet is claiming that his brain is working independently of his will and that a play is being, in a sense, written for him. He is just a... ...s by himself. The play scene highlights the significance of each role and what purpose it serves in Hamlet’s quest for truth and revenge. Bibliography: Works Cited Fisch, Harold. Form: CIB – 3This form is related to group / affiliated concern(s) information of the borrower and or any of its owners. Form: CIB – 4 This form represents the credit exposure of the borrower with the reporting bank. Dotted boxes are need not re quired to be reported. Economic purpose code, security code, Classification status and other information should be incorporated property. Form: CIB – 5 This form is related to the guarantor(s) information of the borrower. All the form should be filled in full name with proper address, Abbreviated name are not acceptable. The impact of CIB in our country is very positive. CIB discourage loan defaulters.A loan defaulter cannot participate in any election as a candidate. It is also a way to harass the defaulter socially. At the initial stage of CIB [about 1990] total classified Loan was detected 41 %. By introducing CIB the percentage of classified loan could be minimized. So indirectly it helps our economy. It also helps the schedule bank by way of providing information as per requirement. Singing in the Rain

Singing in The Rain Brianna Walsh The Use of Singing and Dance in Singin’ In the Rain Singin’ In the Rain is a fantastic movie that shows the transition between silent films and â€Å"talkies. † This film, however, would have no impact what so ever if it were not a musical. The dancing in the movie gave it something different making the movie a classic, while the singing gave the premise of the movie. Lina Lamont would be the first problem with a normal film. If the movie did not have singing, the impact of how bad her voice really was would not be heard. The shocking shrill of her voice is really the premise of the whole movie. To really be appreciated, Lina waited a little before talking in the movie creating anticipation in the viewers. Her lack of dancing abilities just furthered her distance from the â€Å"talkies† and made the audience root against her. Kathy Selden really shined in this movie because of the singing and dancing. Her voice was fantasti c and her dancing, especially paired with Don Lockwood, was better than many audiences had ever seen before. Without these two aspects in place, Kathy would not have been as likeable and her position as the underdog would have affected how the audience viewed her.Don Lockwood swooned all the ladies in this film with his charming singing and amazing tap dancing. He was really the star, in my eyes, of both of the categories. He was impossible to look away from because of his complicated choreography with his co-stars. Don would be nothing in this film if not for the singing and dancing. His part in the film would lessen immensely and he wouldn’t have made such an impact with the viewers. This film is a classic in American history solely because of the singing and dancing scenes. If these two things were not included in the film, it would have been lost among other movies of the time.

Jealousy Essay Example

Jealousy Essay Example Jealousy Essay Jealousy Essay Many people get Jealous of others and this leads to trouble. Vive been In a situation that reflects Arthur Millers play, The Crucible, in which reputations are ruined due to Jealousy. Jealousy has become a major Issue since I met this boy In high school. My friend accused me of being Jealous! This surprised me because he Just blurted out when we ere playing some Narrator game. I defended myself by saying l dont care If you think other girls are cute As long as you dont do anything wrong. I guess he got annoyed because he started telling me about some girls at school. He even asked me If I was jealous yet. After a while he told me that some girl told him I liked some other dude. He was being mean to me because HE was jealous. I found out that jealousy really does make you act differently. It changes who you truly are, and may even ruin a relationship. I almost smacked him for being so obnoxious. The way jealousy affected my relationship, is similar to Act II of The Crucible. Jealousy also tugged at John and Elizabethan relationship. Since Elizabeth was accused of witchcraft, she wanted to find out who accused her. When she found out that Abigail accused her, she immediately said she wants me dead. I knew all this week it would come! This quote shows that Elizabeth believes that Abigail is out to get her just because shes Proctors wife. Elizabeth states, Shed dare not call out such a farmers wife but there be monstrous profit in it. She thinks to take my place, John Elizabethan Jealousy is evident and causes John to get upset and actually grab a rifle as he tells Elizabeth hes going to curse Abigail. Similar to my example of jealousy affecting my relationship that only lasted for a while, Elizabethan Jealousy in Act II of The Crucible caused Proctor to go crazy! BY jacketed others and this leads to trouble. Vive been in a situation that reflects Arthur Millers Jealousy has become a major issue since I met this boy in high school. 7 Real Life Interview Mistakes That You Can Learn From

7 Real Life Interview Mistakes That You Can Learn From Job interviews can be scary. And it’s all too easy to choke. Here are 7 ways real people did choke, according a recent Business Insider story,  and how you can keep yourself from making the same mistakes. At very least, if you feel you’ve ever messed up an interview, you know you’re not alone. 1. Always arrive  preparedWhether you weren’t given much notice for the interview, or you just got an offer from another company that you expect to take, you still have to do your homework. One person reported accidentally calling the company by the name of their biggest rival for the entire interview. Yikes. Bring your A game, no matter how low your stakes.2.  Don’t make assumptions about people you meetOne guy looked totally unprofessional by  assuming a hiring manager was just a secretary. Assuming anything is dangerous, but making assumptions about a person’s rank is even worse. No matter how low on the totem pole you suspect your interviewe r to be, remember that they will be reporting up. Treat them as you would the CEO.3.  Preparation is key to avoid blankingOne person reported having to come up with a song that described them and having no idea (then saying something totally inappropriate in the panic of the moment). Avoid moments like this by preparing. There are some questions you can’t anticipate, but you may have prepared a similar one and could pivot, say, to a book that summed you up (if you were asked for and couldn’t think of an appropriate song). Take a minute to pause and compose yourself, rather than blurting something stupid out.4.  Look in the mirror before you enter the roomSeriously. Someone reported noticing a big booger hanging from their nose when they got out to their car post-interview. This is easily prevented. Do a last minute hygiene/presentation check in the restroom before your interview. Tuck in your shirt, make sure there’s nothing in your teeth or on your face, et c.5.  Use relaxation techniques to conquer nervesOne person was so nervous, all the interviewer’s questions were met with radio silence. If you’re so nervous that you can’t even answer questions, that’s a bad interview no matter what. Try meditating or power-posing in the minutes before (or even during!) the interview to keep your blood flowing and your confidence up. Smile through it, fake being at ease, and no matter what you do, keep answering the questions.6.  Show your excitement, but play it coolYou might be so pumped to be in the final interview stages, but sometimes your overeagerness can bleed into your interview in off-putting ways. One guy’s excitement led to babbling, which let to some pretty bad interviews.   Try to keep your cool. Save the jumping up and down and squealing and fantasizing for when you get home and have comported yourself professionally. Be passionate and interested in the interview, just don’t let yoursel f lose control.7.  Take the time to answer directly and honestlyOne woman reported pivoting away from an honest answer she thought would work in her disfavor, and ending up saying something vague and unfocused instead. Not lying is always important, but if you can find a way to take a moment to collect your thought, then reframe your honest answer in a constructive way? You’re going to impress your interviewer doubly.
